Packing Plywood – A Cost-Effective and Efficient Solution

Posted by Đỗ Tiến Hải at 05/01/2023

1. Introduction to Packing Plywood

Introduction Packing Plywood

Packing plywood is one of the most commonly used plywood types in the packaging and export industry. Built from multiple veneer layers bonded with adhesive and hot-pressed under high pressure, it delivers durability, stability, and affordability.

In the European Union, demand for sustainable packaging materials is rising rapidly due to regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and increasing pressure for low-carbon supply chains. Packing plywood has become a strategic choice for exporters who need cost efficiency while meeting compliance.

2. Dimensions and Technical Specifications

Packing plywood is manufactured in standard sizes such as 1220 × 2440 mm and 910 × 1820 mm, with thicknesses ranging from 7 mm to 17 mm depending on the required number of veneer layers. Dimensional tolerance is controlled at ±0.3 mm, with no negative deviation, while density is typically between 550–580 kg/m³. Moisture content is maintained below 15%, reducing the risk of warping.

The structure combines Acacia and Styrax core veneers with a red Bintangor face veneer and white Styrax back veneer. Bonded with urea-formaldehyde adhesive that meets E0, E1, and E2 standards, it ensures low formaldehyde emissions. Production involves a single hot press, without sanding, to keep costs competitive.

3. Applications in Export and Packaging

Packing plywood is highly versatile across logistics and export industries. It is commonly used in the production of boxes and crates to protect goods during transport. Many manufacturers also choose it for pallets that meet international shipping and phytosanitary standards. For container loading, plywood sheets serve as inner partitions or protective layers, ensuring goods remain safe even in long-distance trade.

In the EU, where single-use plastics are being phased out, plywood packaging is increasingly valued for its reusability and recyclability.

4. Advantages of Packing Plywood

  • Cost-effective compared to premium plywood while still offering durability.
  • Easy to cut, drill, and nail, making it flexible for different applications.
  • Moisture-controlled for dimensional stability and long-term use.
  • FSC®-certified and compliant with EUDR, CARB P2, CE, and JAS, ensuring both sustainability and global export readiness.

5. Market Trends in the EU

The European market is shifting towards greener materials. Buyers prioritize plywood that is traceable, FSC certified, and EUDR compliant. This aligns with the European Green Deal, which emphasizes sustainable supply chains and carbon reduction. At the same time, restrictions on plastics are creating new opportunities for wood-based panels in packaging.

Lightweight but strong, packing plywood also helps reduce transport costs and damage risks, which makes it a competitive option for exporters serving the EU.
